10th & 11th GRADE CONFIRMATION PROGRAM POLICY
All Class Meetings listed below will be held in the St. Genevieve Family Center from 4:15 – 5:45 p.m., followed by Mass at 6:00 p.m. in Church. Students will dismiss from in front of the Family Center. If your child will be driving, you must check the box on the registration form saying that your child may leave without a parent to pick him/her up. All other students must have a parent pick them up in carline in front of the Family Center after Mass. Any child not going to Mass must be picked up by a parent between 5:45 – 5:55 p.m. from the Family Center.
All Adoration Hours/Assignments (see Adoration Reflection Guide given to students on first day of class) are required and to be done on the student’s time whenever he or she would like to do them. They may adore at the Two Hearts Chapel on the Nicholls Campus (open 24 hours a day), at the Christ the Redeemer Chapel (open 7 am – 7 pm daily), or at any other Catholic church or chapel that has Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament available. If the Holy Hours and journals are not completed by the last class period, students will not be allowed to register for 11th grade/will not be allowed to Confirm if in 11th grade.
The absence and make-up policy is as follows: Students may only have 1-3 excused (and made-up) absences per school year. Excused absences must be submitted in writing by the student him or herself to the Director of Formation Ministries. If the request is made after the reason for the absence has occurred, the letter must be supported by a note from either (depending on the reason) their doctor, the school principal/dean of students or discipline, coordinator of the event the student must attend, or the parent. Any excuses beyond three must be explicitly approved by the student's pastor (Fr. Eric or Fr. JD). The student (not the parent) will have to follow the above policy requirements, but submit it to their pastor instead of the Director of Formation. A student may have no more than six absences during the school year. 10th graders with more than 6 excused/3 unexcused absences will automatically be removed from the program. 11th graders with more than six excused/ 3 unexcused absences will have to make a formal appeal to the Bishop to be allowed to Confirm. Make-up Sessions: We will record the teaching presentation each week. Students who miss class must come to the office to watch the video, answer the discussion questions in writing and turn them in to the Director of Formation Ministries (Jessica) or the Youth Minister (Brandi). This make-up session must be completed before the next Confirmation class as the info will build on what they learned the previous week. If an absence is not excused, students will not be allowed to participate in the make-up session. Someone will be available if they have any questions or would like to share their thoughts. We will not, under any circumstances, be releasing the videos publicly or emailing them to anyone, as the goal is for our students to come on Sundays and miss as little as possible to be able to benefit from discussion with their peers and mentors. Make-up sessions will be on the Monday following the missed class.
(NOTE: 6:00 p.m. Mass attendance is not required if your family goes to Mass at a different time. Families are invited to come to 6:00 p.m. Mass with their child for both Class Meeting Nights and C2C Nights.)
